Ballet for Beginners
Primarily our Ballet for Beginners class will be lots of fun! It will also be a great way to spend time with like minded individuals. We understand that adults’ time is limited and we have thought carefully about the best way to maximum your time with us.
What will I learn?
We will start from the foundation steps and will take time to understand correct technique and the use of core. This will help strengthen your body and prevent injury.
We will explore the use of “port de bras” and understand how moving our arms and head can communicate stories and emotions. Through this you will experience the cathartic nature of expression in ballet.
We will teach the slow, controlled “adage”. Here you will learn how to use your muscle groups to lengthen and tone your limbs and to achieve the elegant alignment of your body in various balances and movements.
We will also enjoy the fast and interesting “allegro” steps that will burn calories and increase stamina.
We will draw together these elements into dances that help you enjoy the flow and grace of ballet.
Finally we will cool down, stretch and relax to varied music from ballet.
How will I understand the ballet terminology?
We will explain everything and have great tips remember the vocabulary. You will learn that the terminology itself tells you what to do and how to do it.
Where are the classes held?
We are fortunate to have the use of a mirrored and air conditioned dance studio within a lovely community sports centre at Club Cheadle Hulme. Facilities include a drinking water fountain, vending machines and changing rooms.
I am concerned about my age/size/health?
We are used to teaching adults of all ages and our current age range is 14 to 75. Adults of all shapes and sizes enjoy our classes. We also accommodate various injuries and health problems and with up-to-date information from your health provider can adapt exercises to suit.
What should I wear?
You can wear whatever you are comfortable dancing in and bare feet or ballet shoes is great.
